Description
THE LONE STAR
The 2026 Texas Capitol Ornament shines as a gleaming gold Lone Star, the timeless emblem of Texas pride. At its heart rests the south façade and majestic dome of the Texas Capitol, framed by a patriotic medley of red, white, and blue accents.
The ornament’s intricate blue and white designs echo the carved wooden window and door surrounds found throughout the original Capitol building, as well as the elegant terrazzo floors gracing its halls. A red and gold banner adds a vibrant flourish, allowing the ornament’s artistry to pay subtle homage to the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America, as the nation celebrates the Semiquincentennial in 2026.
The lore of the Lone Star is woven into the very fabric of Texas, and nowhere is it more prominent than in the Texas Capitol. From the building’s ground floor to the outstretched hand of the Goddess of Liberty atop the dome, the Lone Star symbolizes the hope, achievement, and excellence at the heart of Texas.
The 2026 ornament honors a long tradition of Lone Stars at the Texas Capitol:
- 1885 ~ The earliest Lone Star cornerstone, installed on the 49th anniversary of Texas Independence Day.
- 1888 ~ The original Lone Star held by the Goddess of Liberty, now preserved at the Capitol Visitors Center.
- 1936 ~ The terrazzo floor Lone Star in the Capitol Rotunda, commemorating the Texas Centennial.
- 1958 ~ The three-dimensional metal Lone Star, suspended at the summit of the Capitol Dome.
The 2026 Texas Capitol ornament celebrates the history and American heritage of Texas, uniting past and present in a single, shining Lone Star.
