2018 Texas Capitol Ornament

This year, we celebrate the 130th anniversary of the completion and dedication of the Texas Capitol. Taking over 6 years to build, the Lone Star statehouse is a magnificent example of Renaissance Revival Architecture. Senator Temple Houston, the youngest son of Sam Houston, accepted the Capitol on behalf of the people of Texas at the dedication. This year’s ornament was designed to commemorate this special anniversary of the finest building in Texas on the rare occasion of an Austin snowfall, transforming Capitol Square into a winter wonderland. The gates open to welcome visitors to snow-covered grounds underneath a twinkling, star-filled sky. The Capitol is framed by a wreath of Texas Yaupon Holly leaves and berries wrapped in festive red ribbon and topped with a gold Texas Lone Star. The back of the ornament features Temple Houston’s famous quote from his speech at the 1888 Capitol dedication: “Here glitters a structure that shall stand as a sentinel of eternity.”

Sales from this exclusive ornament, the twenty-third in the series, support the ongoing preservation of the Texas Capitol and its interpretation for over one million annual visitors. Hang this Texas tradition on your tree and help the statehouse maintain its beauty for generations to come. This durable yet delicate ornament is finished in 24K gold and measures approximately 2.5 inches. All proceeds support the ongoing preservation and interpretation of the Texas Capitol as well as exhibitions and educational programming at the Bullock Texas State History Museum. Polish with a soft, dry cloth. Made in USA.
