Description

Draftsman F. H. Arlitt’s 1856 map is one of the earliest depictions of the county. It shows the original Texas land surveys as they were entered into the record. As the map indicates, there was still a generous amount of public land in Tarrant County for settlers to claim. Lands with access to water sources – in this case, the Trinity River – were usually the first to be surveyed and settled.
