Jefferson County, named for U.S. President Thomas Jefferson, was created in 1836. In 1838, Beaumont was named county seat. This map, notable for its use of color, was drawn by county surveyor and draftsman O.H. Delano under the direction of the first Texas land commissioner, John P. Borden.
