Description

Matagorda, Texas, May 29, 1852 is a watercolor painting by British artist Thomas Flintoff. He came to the United States around 1850. In the spring of 1852 Flintoff visited Houston, Corpus Christi, Indianola and Matagorda, recording his impressions of these towns in a series of watercolor sketches. These watercolors are of great historical importance because most show buildings no longer in existence which, along with their surroundings, would otherwise be known only by written descriptions.
