Description

Prairie at Mission Concepcion is an important historical document of life in Texas during the 1880s. Artist Thomas Allen was born in St. Louis and studied at Washington University until his move to Paris, then Dusseldorf to attend the Royal Academy. The artist returned to the United States and began traveling in the American West during the winter of 1878-1879. These travels included a trip to Texas, where he painted many scenes in San Antonio and the surrounding areas, including this work.
