Description

Flowers in Vase was painted by native Texan Hallie Crane Rippeteau. One of the few women artists working in Texas prior to the turn of the century, she studied under well-known Texas artist Henry Arthur McArdle at the Baylor Female College in Independence from 1880 to 1885. Rippeteau worked in many mediums including oil, watercolor and pastels. Her specialty was depicting wildflowers, especially bluebonnets. Thus, this still life of cut flowers is one of her rarer paintings.
